NOTE: This review is part of a retrospective of the Sonic franchise. Feel free to read the other Sonic reviews I’ve done here - https://expithecat.blogspot.com/search/label/sonic%20retrospective You might have expected my next review to be Colors DS. Or Generations. Or Colors Ultimate when that came out. But nope, you were wrong, HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Background and History Prior to this game, Sega had published a series of games under the “Sega Superstars” tag - which came in the form of a crossover between many of Sega’s properties. Kind of like Smash Brothers, but instead of fighting games, the first game in the series took the form of an Eyetoy minigame collection developed by Sonic Team and the second as a tennis game developed by Sumo Digital - which I actually remember having some vague memories of playing with my brother on the 360. Also in researching this I found out that ‘Sega Superstars Tennis’ has a Mac OS X port but not a Windows port which honestly is pretty strange to me. A

Feel free to read the other Sonic reviews I’ve done here - https://expithecat.blogspot.com/search/label/sonic%20retrospective I was initially planning to review Sonic 4: Episode 1 and Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing, but I decided to push them off so I could get Sonic Colors out of the way before Ultimate comes out (so I can review that and compare it as a remater). Plus, in addition, I figured it would be better to review Episode 1 alongside Episode 2 after Generations or so. I probably will review All-Stars Racing soon, but for now, well, here’s Sonic Colors. Background and History Following the release of Unleashed and after criticism towards a lot of the recent releases up to that point, Sonic Team chose to make a Sonic game that resembled that of a more fast-paced, straightforward platformer akin to the Genesis games by cutting down on a lot of the major gimmicks like the Werehog or swordplay in Black Knight (r

I did want to review Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing but I’ve been meaning to get to Sonic Colors before Ultimate releases, so I will probably save that for later - at least when I finish playing and reviewing Colors. Anyway… Background Sonic and the Black Knight serves as the second of the Storybook games that started with Secret Rings. In fact, it was the second out of the two Storybook games since the mini-series ended after this one. The game was revealed at Nintendo’s pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference in 2008, and released in March of the following year. That’s… all I could really find about the game’s development, really. The game got mixed-to-negative reception when it came out, with a lot of criticism toward the swordplay and platform

Feel free to read the other Sonic reviews I’ve done here - https://expithecat.blogspot.com/search/label/sonic%20retrospective Alright, time to move on to the next Sonic game I have to review - Sonic & the Black Kni- GOD DAMN IT THERE’S ANOTHER VERSION OF UNLEASHED? Background and History After the release of the console versions of Sonic Unleashed, Sega Europe signed a deal with GameLoft, a video game company that specializes largely in mobile games, mostly based on various AAA releases and other IPs including… My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic? That awful pay-to-win Farmville clone? God damn it I’m already dreading this. Anyway, this game was announced at E3 2009 and released later that same year. Which is honestly kind of strange to me considering by then Sonic and the Black Knight was the latest console Sonic title and I’m not sure why they wouldn’t announce and develop a mobile version sooner but, whatever
