Spyro: Reignited Trilogy (PC/PS4/XbOne/Switch, 2018) Review

I decided to take a break from reviewing consoles and Sonic games and review something new for a change. Considering that I’m a fan of the PS1 and PlayStation platformers in general (especially nowadays), it may surprise you to say that I actually didn’t really play the Spyro games growing up. I was definitely more of a Crash kid and while I’ve always held interest in the Spyro series, it kind of pains me to say that I never really got the chance to play it. I do remember my brother having the first game on the PS1 growing up but I don’t remember playing it myself and unfortunately that game along with the PS1 and most of his collection ended up getting sold when I was about 8 or 9. And when I bought my own PS1 a few years later with some Christmas money, the Spyro games were going for around $20-$30 each. Not exactly an expensive game, but as a teenager with no job mostly working with an income of money for birthdays and Christmas I still didn’t really get the opportunity to play ...

Pain and Misery: Sonic Jam (Game.com, 1998) Review

NOTE: This review is part 10 in a retrospective of the Sonic franchise. Feel free to read the other Sonic reviews I’ve done here - https://expithecat.blogspot.com/search/label/sonic%20retrospective Hey. You guys in the r/Sonic Discord server? Yeah, you. Fuck you. History and Background In 1997, Sega released Sonic Jam for the Sega Saturn, a compilation of the classic Sonic games ported to the Sega Saturn. Instead of having the games run on an emulator like other Sonic compilations, the classic games were completely ported over and remade to work on the Saturn. Feel free to read the other Sonic reviews I’ve done here - https://expithecat.blogspot.com/search/label/sonic%20retrospective Background and History Last time in my Sonic 3D Blast review, I talked about the Sega Saturn, and it’s rocky launch. I will say I did get something slightly wrong though - I stated that the US launch caused some developers to drop support for the Saturn, which wasn’t necessarily the case. While there were retailers that didn’t support the Saturn or were at least put off by the surprise launch, I kind of gave the impression that some developers were working on Saturn games but ditched them after the surprise launch which… wasn’t actually the case. There was still a software drought at launch though, since there simply wasn’t enough Saturn games ready yet, but it wasn’t necessarily a case of developers outright dropping support for the Saturn. But anyway, Sonic R. After finishing 3D Blast, Trav...
